Does anyone know about the OVT between the AT and North Carolina's Mountains to Sea Trail? Is it walkable? How much of it is a footpath vs. road walking? I know it connects to the MST near Linville Gorge and I'm guessing the Overmountain shelter on the AT is on the OVT as well. I can't find too much about it on the parks/forest services sites.

I spoke to the National Park Service Superintendent for the Trail today on an unrelated matter. There are only approximately 30 miles of trail in total "on the ground" out of the 330 mile length of the proposed trail. The longest walkable section in woods is about 4 miles. So, I think the answer to your question is, there are lots & lots of road walks for this trail. It is not a foot path that is suitable for long distance hiking.

I hope that answers your question.
