Any opinions which direction is easier? I'm thinking probably North to South is a little better. Tripper and I are planning to finish Georgia this trip and will probably have our daughter along. She's not a strong hiker but we have 4 days to do 32 miles.
Any update on water sources? It's been a dry spring in North Alabama. Thanks.

If you have someone who is not a strong hiker, you have two strategies.

1) get the big climbs out of the way first and begin at Unicoi.

2) give them an opportunity to get some trail legs, and hit those big climbs the last two days.

I think you have a "flip the coin" decision here. Personally, I'd go for South to North and have the nice views of Tray to end the first day, Kelly Knob's last big climb for day two, and much easier walking for the remainder.
