Im looking to buy a hammock, and Im not looking to spend over $150. The hennessy scout looks like a really good deal $79 with big hex fly. I cant seem to see the difference between the scout and the expedition asym... aside from the asymmetrical shape. Is asym that big of a deal? Also, should I skim on spending money on a hammock, or should I go ahead and buy somthing a little more expensive?

One problem with the Scout it is made for smaller and young individuals. I see you age is 24. The hight & weight limits for the Scout are listed as up to 5'10" and 200#. if you are anywhere close to 5'10" and 200# I would opt for a larger hammock. You said you did not want to spend more than $150 and in that case I would suggest you get the Expedition (up to 6' 250 lbs) while it weighs a bit more I think you may find it more comfortable. Yes in my opinion the Asym is a big deal. It allows you to lay on the diagonal hence a flatter lay.

Stop on over to www.hammockforums.net there is allot of good information over there. Also there is Sgt Rocks Site (http://hikinghq.net/) as well as Jeffs site (http://tothewoods.net/)

I have both the Scout (for my son) and the ULBPAsym (for me). the biggest difference between these two is the type of material used in construction: the Scout weighs about 1/2 lb more than my Asym. It's made with cheaper material that weighs more. Not bad - makes for a more affordable product - but a significant difference to me....

Email Tom Hennessy and ask for the discount deals...returns, irregulars, etc. You can get good deals on a functional hammock direct from the manufacturer.

Price isn't really the determining factor for hammocks...look at the whole system. HHs are pretty convenient for an all-in-one solution...other brands can be more versatile. Just depends on what you're looking for.

Whichever model you choose, be sure you have an insulation plan for under the hammock.
