if zero point energy is developed. these items will no longer be included in the standard thruhiking kit. extra batteries, extra fuel, pot cozy, pot lid, windscreen, insulated headlamp bag, sleeping bag insulation for severe cold,(replaced by heat elements) extra lighter, cell phone charger, camcorder charger, alcohol stove preburner, solar chargers and all maner of energy saving and producing devices. cell phone cranks. i could go on with a list ofthings that would use energy that would replace passive heavy things till eventually we would simply place a one ounce disc on the ground that would create a force sheild for a tent. but the point is, what would you choose to do with the extra space and weight? my dream is to hike longer between stores and carry all the food in the world! you?

We will truly be ultralight when the T'okra give us the technology to build a personal weather field. You can hike even in the coldest weather in just running shorts and a tec-tee. No CWG, no sleeping bag, no tent or tarp, and teh device is no bigger than a box of matches.

Someone get S'elmac on the phone...

I'd rather swim the Potomac than fall in the Han. When I lived in Korea you could smell that river from Suwon, 20 miles away. It's completely polluted.
