I just launched my latest labor of love, TrailPhone.net (http://trailphone.net), a service which lets A.T. hikers call a phone number (877-99-TRAIL) to record audio updates and map their hike's progress using the touch tone keypad. (You don't need a cell phone. This will work from payphones, phones at hostels, etc.) Everything gets posted / mapped instantly on TrailPhone.net. You can click on the little markers on the map to hear the entries, you can download them as a podcast, or you can have TrailPhone.net email you whenever a new post is made.
Not only can hikers record over the phone, they can also listen to one another's entries, and know whats going on ahead and behind them on the trail. Hikers can search entries on the phone by hiker id or mile range.
Please let me know how I can improve the service, etc. If you're on or near the trail feel free to create an account and record an audio update over the phone. Thanks.
