I am going Southbound this summer. I was wondering if anyone knew of cabin rentals that are close to the trail.
My folks wanted to meet up with me around VA and I’m sure I wouldn’t mind a few zero days.

Look into the PATC cabins (http://www.patc.net/activities/cabins/cab_list.html). Some of these are as near as the shelters are on the trail.

More then a handful of cabins are within a mile of the AT between Pine Grove Furnace Sate Park in PA and Waynesboro, VA.
The problem for you is that you'll need to make reservations and be at a specific place at a specific time, as these cabins are locked. Renting during weeknites just about anytime of the year is cheap and almost a sure thing as far as getting the cabin you want....

Thanks, I found a cabin in Lexington VA. We did a weekend there a few years back. Beautiful Town
