I have very flat feet. In the search for the "holy grail" of shoes for my poor feet, I ran across these crazy things.... www.zcoil.com Then, I found out there was a dealer only two miles from where I live. I went down and checked them out. I didn't buy any because it seemed like the spring mechanism could be prone to failure on a trail like the AT....though the mechanism was surprisingly more robust than you can tell in the photo. I was surprised by how lightweight they actually were (light weight compared to how heavy they look) and how much shock and energy return I could feel. If these things could be developed a little further this might be a viable option for trail shoes in the future. David S.
