That`s interesting but leaves you hiking alone...The way I`ve always done it is.......Both hikers meet where the hike will end and park one car...They drive together in the other car to the hikes start and park the other car and begin hiking..When they reach the end they get in the car there and head back to the start ..Since we are talking only 12-15 miles or so it`s not that long in a car to go.........I`m always taking day hikes up in the Maryland area...But I always mix my day hikes up with eating out somewhere in the area..Visiting the casino up in Charlestown and/or visiting some of the historical places in the area

Somebody walks off the trail to go to the bathroom or get water, you miss the exchange of keys, and you're both screwed.

Either have 2 sets of keys for each car or a hide-a-key on each car.

Or better yet, use a scooter. Use one truck w/ a platform tray that fits into a receiver hitch, hike together, and one person shuttles around on a scooter to go back and get the car.

Dear Juma,

I live in Maryland close to the District. I would love to go on some walks in the area. My wife and I are new out here and I would love to have someone to shuttle with. I have done several good walks on the AT so far. The speed sounds good. Drop me a line. I'm at jessemckinneyatgmaildotcom.
