Just wanted to share some news with all my thru hiking and trail friends and this forum might not be the most proprer place to do it but it sure is a place to get news out. Moxie, thru hiker, hell raiser, and sometimes trail character just won a seat in the Maine State Legislature. I don't knpw if I would trust me to be a lawmaker, decision maker in billion $ budgets, but it just shows with hard work and determination even trail trash like me can accomplish something. In ain't no thru hike but it is another adventure in my life and I am anxious to go for it. Also for the first time in many years I will now be available to go to trail days and ALDA because we will not be in session during those events. At last, a chance to see all my old friends again.:sun

Congrats, Moxie!

You'll be great you ole rascal! I always knew you'd turn out fine! :)))) I'm sure you will make Maine proud!

Miss all of our old chats together.

Hope to catch you in Maine when Smokestack finishes his 2007 thru. Sad to say he is home at the minute with a severely inflamed achilles.

That's great. The people of Maine must be more open-minded than I thought <grin>. Good luck.

I'm running for vice mayor here in Damascus. I'll be in charge of all vice. Gambling, prostitution, porn, etc.

Congrats! It takes a lot of Moxie to be a good politican these days, so I guess you had a leg up on everyone else. I wasn't aware that Maine has a hiker trash (political) party. :D

Moxie, elected while running as the Billville/Libraritarian candidate ("Better Red Than Dead"), moved quickly to consolidate power and enact his agenda.

He sponsored legislation requiring Mainers to sit around wood stoves all winter talking about the Red Sox. Moxie, of course, became the only drink permitted to be sold at public school cafeterias.

Steve the Ferryman was given tax exempt status and the difference was made up by requiring those wishing to ford to purchase a permit.

All Mainers were required to do one week of trail maintenance per year. Strangely, this resulted in the trail becoming more difficult and harder to understand.

School bus drivers' wages went up threefold.

Mainers voted overwhelmingly in a statewide referendum that Maine was finally, in fact, the way life should be. Except for certain neighborhoods in Portland.

Enjoying his success and pushing further, Moxie ran for US Senate in 2012. At the time Olympia Snow had the highest popularity rating at home of any US Senator, but Moxie prevailed after he beat her in a live televised wrestling match.

Some termed it "Moxiemania." Others called it "Mass Moxteria." But regardless of how you felt, it was hard to deny that, as the newly renamed Mox News Network ("We Report, You Say 'Auyuh'") said, "we don't know what it is, but Senator Moxie's got it. And it's contagious. But CDC's working on a vaccine."

Such was his popularity nationwide that Moxie was elected President in 2030, despite the fact that
a)it wasn't a Presidential election year and
b)he had died two years earlier.

Congrats Mox!
