I too am a hammock fan!
I have a GI Issue jungle hammock, 3.1 pounds, and use it for section hiking from 1-4 day trips. The southern AT through Georgia and North Carolina present multiple opportunities with literally thousands of great spots for hammocks; both near and away from the shelters. One of my favorites is the ridge leading to Whitley Gap SHelter between Tesnatee and Hogpen Gaps at AT mile 36.9. Great view, and the day hikers generally don't walk this section as it is only about a mile between two paved road approaches; they head out in the other directions.

Band of Warriors will head into the Standing Indian campground area for a two day hike (21.3 miles) on Novemeber 8 & 9, 2003. Anyone wishing to join a party of six is welcome.
