I'm looking for short term travel insurance. I'm looking to cover emergency conditions and gear. Anybody got suggestions? Experience? Warnings? Anything?

Below is a start for your research here (lifted from another thread). I assume you're looking at travelers' policies for the gear coverage. Something else to consider that may already be in place is your current renters or homeowners policy (or the policy of anyone close to you who could cover your stuff--depending on the wording of their policy). Also, it probably can't hurt to walk into a local insurance bureau and ask about an individually crafted policy that would meet your specific conditions. It may be costly that way, but if the coverage is limited enough, maybe not.
