View Full Version : three weeks- weight/muscle changes
Hi!
I was wondering what you all have experienced in terms of weight changes/changes in how much muscle you have and where you have it on a three-week hike, or in the first three weeks of a longer hike
Thanks!

My weight has either stayed the same or gone up, but my clothing size has gone down. My butt and waist get smaller and my legs - especially lower legs - get larger.
Last year on a 16 day section hike I lost 9 lbs. Gained it back in 8 days!
Like Dino, I don't lose weight, but I do get thinner and more muscular. It really depends on how well you match your food consumption to what you need, though. Allison A. lost about 20 pounds in her first month of hiking last year. She had no appetite and didn't eat much. After the first few days my appetite was just fine so I didn't lose anything.

No weight loss for me (for 2.5 weeks at least, that is the longest I've been out). Just muscles that expand on my calves, stomach, thighs, and arms if I am using trekking poles. I do not get much thinner either, I just get solid.
