I'm heading to Boulder this weekend :p Would anyone suggest any day hike options?

Also what is a recommended gear list for a day hike?

Without even leaving the city limits one can find numerous enjoyable hikes with great views. The western edge of town borders the Flatiron Mtns. with steep sandstone, lots of "bouldering" and some areas with true rockclimbing.

Among the choices for hiking, head up (west) on Baseline Rd. to Chataqua park. Head west then south along the Mesa trail. Another option (if you have a car) is to drive up to the NCAR (N'tnl Center for Atmospheric Research) building ( I think it's Table Mesa Rd.) park behind the building and trails head both N. and S. (This building was prominent in Woody Allen's movie Sleeper - where Big Brother was operated on).

Another option is to drive a few miles south of town on rt. 93 (toward Golden) then turn right (west) into Eldorado Canyon. Take the Rd.3-4 miles 'til it ends, and from the Park parking lot, walk west into the canyon. Spectacular big walls with climbers likely on numerous routes. This place is one of the top big wall rock climbimg sites in the US.
