I use two of these.... http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=39206168&memberId=12500226

I find with my arthritis the cane style handles work better for me.

The Leki website has charts with the various features so that you can pick the ones you need or want. Decide what features you want first.

I just bought two Leki ski poles for $2 total at a thrift store. Since I only use one at a time, this $2 expenditure should last me at least 4,000 trail miles. I still don't have any knee problems after 30,000+ miles of walking; thanks to using the one used thrift-store ski pole method.

Reuse and/or recycle sounds more like 'Leave No Trace' to me.

No idea if they are the 'best" but I own the Leki Titanium Ultralights. Got them at one of the REI $20 off sales about 2 years ago. They've held up well.

I used the malaku..

I also use these, but one of mine has developed a problem with the spring system. I am not sure I am sold on the spring system yet...

About the lowest cost Leki's you'll find. I really like the push button length adjusting.

I like my Leki Super Makalu Ergo's.

I'll probably buy the Titanium Goat adjustable goat poles too before long.

On virginal trip to the AT my Leki failed to make the 120 miles between Erwin and Damascus. Folks around Johnny's didn't seem to surprised. They've been replaced by what appears to be the much more robust but slightly heavier Black Diamonds. The problem with the Leki seems to be in the top joint. It appears there's a very small recessed screw holding things together.

The only thing that hasn't held up on my lekis is the paint. Look for any with shocks and telescoping sections. I like the black rubbery handles instead of the cork looking ones - personal preference.

I also find that paper toweling a small bit of WD40 on the outside of the tops (not the inside!!!) of each section helps keep the shock system clean.

Happy hiking!

Malaku's work best for me. If you want an expert opinion, you might want to IM Lone Wolf. :)

I've been using Leki Super Makalu's for quite a few years with no real problems. As time progressed I've found that I liked the anti-shock springs less and less. They claim to be adjustable springs, but I've never been able to get much of a change from the full spring rate. The springs also give a very mushy feel and when you want a quick and solid plant, it's not going to be there.

I recently switched to the new Titanium Goat (brand) adjustable carbon fiber poles at 6.4 oz per pair (vs Leki's at 21 oz). Incredibly light and solid, only $15 more than the Leki's are. I've been giving the TiGoat's a real workout since getting them with no sign of a problem yet.

I guess it's just "different poles for different souls/soles".
