I would be interested to know if others are seam sealing thier backpack. In packing my bag last week I was surprised by the gaps in the seams.

No, it's not generally done. Even if you could waterproof a brand new pack, it would only stay that way a couple years. Then the coating on the nylon would wear off. Best to either use plastic bags inside or a silnylon pack cover outside. At least they are easily replacable.

my ole backpack is leaky and I like it that way...all my gear that needs to stay dry is in double plastic bags inside a the stuuf bag ..I don't use a pack cover..and want the pack to not be sealed so that it doesn't hold water ..

Seam sealing a backpack is very difficult and probably not worth your time considering the cost of a pack cover. BUT if you feel so inclined make sure the seams are stretched and use Seam Grip or Aquaseal...I can't see any other sealant holding or lasting. Keep in mind that your zippers will still leak.
