Hey all...
I just got off the trail a couple of weeks ago in PA for reasons beyond my control (and I am so so so so bummed that I am not there with my friends anymore!). So I was thinking that when my friends got close to Monson I am going to drive out and hike the 100 mile wilderness and summit Katahdin with them (I plan on finishing the rest of the trail another time). I was wondering if anyone knew of any places that I could leave my car for a week and suggestions on how to get back to it once I am ready to go home. Anything you can give me will be a big help!

It used to be very inexpensive to leave a car at Shaw's Boarding House in Monson (like a few dollars a day or less). Tho there is new ownership, I'm assuming they still offer this srvice.

Getting back to Monson from Baxter or Millinocket can be challenging; it's hitchable, if you're willing to spend the better part of a day doing this. Otherwise, there are local shuttlers (probably some of the Monson lodging houses offer this service if you're willing to pay for it). Lastly, the ATC has a complete list of Maine shuttlers on their website, www.appalachiantrail.org I'l bet that prices vary widely for a Baxter to Monson shutle; you'll probably want to make a few calls and shop around. Also, there are folks in Milliocket who offer this service, i.e. can get you back to Monson to retrieve your car. I'd check out the folks at www.appalachiantraillodge.com who are wonderful folks.

mambo tango: give me a shout: :D [email protected], I can link up with you and help work out a shuttle for you/your car. If your going to start in Monson, leave your car there at the parking lot, do your hike, I can pick you up in BSP or Millenockett and bring you back to your car or vise versa: car at Millenocket/Abol bridge I shuttle you to Monson to start your hike so your hiking TOWARD your car. :)
