Is there a map of the AT using Google Earth?
Also looking for other online maps showing the AT with nearby towns and roads.

I take it back. IN the thread the last post said it didn't work. When I put "appalachian Trail" in the 'fly to' space , the trail slowly emerged as a series of red dots.
I haven't figured out how to get more useful information to show on the google map. But I bet it's there. I'm going back to play with tilt in the Sassaffrass Mountain area.

I just said the same thing today.
I was getting tired of looking at Google Earth and see only a couple sections of the AT, and a few of them are profiles a decade old. Watauga Lake section is completely wrong.
I talked to my hiking leader, who wrote the Tennessee/North Carolina Trail Guide, and he supplied me with the cooridintes of specific stuff from Damascus to Spivey Gap.
And I was also able to find the shelter GPS locations.

Sorry..My table of coordinates didn't translate correctly when I posted. I would have deleted it if I could. If the admin sees it please erase that post to free up space.
I am working on a Google Earth .kml file for my clubs section Spivey Gap to Damascus. I plotted all major gaps, summits, shelters, and trailheads as of 2007. I am now trying to configure and plot locations of all major water sources. And some of the best side trail opportunities.
If anyone wants this file, just message me.
Does anyone have any up to date Google Earth stuff for Spivey Gap to Fontana?
