Here's how to make short ones: http://tinyurl.com/

The banana case is a good idea but maybe not for hiking. I carried bananas on the outside of my pack in the stuffsack with my tent and poles. Worked great.

Just buy banana chips and you won't have that problem.

This link (http://www.nutsonline.com/driedfruit/banana-chips/unsweetened.html?source=gaw&kw=cam3grp32AdA&gclid=CNO-o83t2Y0CFQIpFQodpn7qmA) that shows the nutritional value of banana chips is also very long but if you copy a long URL then highlight a word or phrase in your reply by left-clicking and dragging the mouse across it, then click on the little world/chain link icon in the toolbox at the top middle of the 'Reply to Thread' box, paste the link in the highlighted dialog box and press 'OK', you won't have to worry how long the link is.

Oh, I also assumed the item mentioned in the original post came less batteries.:D

Most banana chips available commercially include extra oil (usually the undesirable soybean oil), added salt, or added simple sugars, NONE of which the nutrient-minded LD hiker will want in his diet. Now, make your own, sure, that'd be a good trail food.

The rest of your post is questionable as well.

Oh, man! I just looked at the website...they appear to be "ribbed for her pleasure". :p
Is that a banana in your pack, or are you just happy to see me? :banana :banana

But seriously though, I actually like the "Tropical" trail mix available at Walmart; I've bought some for my last couple of trail excursions...it has banana chips plus: papaya, pineapple, raisins, apricots and cranberries, with a couple types of nuts, too.

Last time I got it I paid about $5 for almost 2 pounds... :) [<Walmart symbol]

It has coconut oil too, but when my cholesterol was checked last year it was fine...

no added oil hereAnything special in the way you did it? I've dehyrated bananas and they never worked out.

I slice them mabye 1/4" thick and dry them. They come out nice and firm, but once in my mouth, they sort of melt and turn instantly to slime the consistency of a loogie.

They taste fine (the banana chips), but it's hard to swallow them without triggering a gag reflex.

Oh, Wendi, that is the funniest thing I have seen in a long time. LOL. Thank you -- I think I need the entire set. Gifts for the whole family! (Well, half of them....)

wendy,

I cut them as thin as possible. I dry them way beyond firm. They end up like banana chips.

I do suppose they end up a mush in my mouth after chewing, but, then, so does every thing I eat.

I said that in post #5. No more Moxie for you!;)OMG I totally missed that please don't cut off my Moxie:o . And I cut into a good Dali thread swerve too:datz .

In my defense, I was reading from the top but I spied MS's name and quickly jumped down to his post while only 1/4 of the way through TOF's. I should shut up now as that will probably get me cutoff too. I'm getting my butt kicked in poker tonight as well. Oh heck, I'm going now but I might as well add that I think banana chips suck.

That oil is another relatively saturated fat, addition of which to bananas is a nutritive negative. Coconut oil is not much better than palm oil (often used in similiar applications), neither of which the nutritionally-aware hiker will knowingly add to his diet.

I'll pass on your banana chips, OF, while still concluding actual bananas are in moderation a good food.

I have bought packages of whole dried bananas before a bit chewey and sweet. Great snack. They come 9 or 12 in a pkg, can't remember now. Try looking in an asian grocery store or here (http://www.livingtreecommunity.com/store2/product.asp?id=104&catid=18)
