Anyone ever have their hiking boots bronzed? I mean, people bronze their little kids' baby shoes, so why not their AT hiking boots, right? My boots saw 1,800 miles of the trail before I decided to retire them, and they deserve to be preserved for all time.

Seriously, I really am wondering about this -- the logistics, the cost, how do you get it done, where do you go, can you do it yourself at home. Is there anyone out there with experience in getting their boots bronzed?

Well...they'll last a lot longer, but it will be a real b*tch going up those mountain trails in them! :banana:banana:banana

If done just right, they could become vases for beautiful trail flowers. Yes, that would be nice. Anyone ready to start a new business?--Kinnickinic

Thanks, Dino, for those links. This could be the hardest part: "Your first step will be to clean the shoes thoroughly." That'll take a while.

A flower vase, or maybe the base of a lamp. Lotsa great uses for old, smelly, worn out hiking boots...

Miss Janet decorated her porch with hiker boots turned flower pots. They looked fantastic and I'm stealing her idea with my first pair of hiking boots.

Hi Pokey,

I can help! I own the ORIGINAL and largest bronzing company, American Bronzing. The web address is www.abcbronze.com (http://www.abcbronze.com). Just go to the section for bronzing other items and you'll see pricing for bronzing boots (hiking boots count!)

We can make them look terrific...and you won't have to spend a fortune, either!

If you have any questions, feel free to email me personally.

Hope this helps!

Bob

Oops. I forgot to mention, you don't need to clean the boots first either. We can bronze them with the dirt on them. Gives them personality!

The info on professional services came from ibronz's site and I linked to his site's page on bronzing adult footwear (including boots) in post #2.

How about sealing them in a block of poly-urethane?

Newb, is it possible to make a block of polyurethane? (Female dino is not the knowledgeable half the dinos in such matters....)

I see coins and doo-dads sealed in plastic all the time. I suppose you just put them in a form and pour the goop over them. I have to admit that I don't really know, either. :(
