How easy is it to get canister fuel along the AT? I am debating using an alcohol stove or my snowpeak gs-100a because it seems that everywhere sells denatured alcohol, but very few outfitters sell canister fuel. What type of stove should I go with?

I use a MSR Pocket rocket. I abolutely love it! I've used it thru early winter in NH and didn't have any problems. However once the temperature gets in 10's or lower, you'll have some slight problems with the fuels separating. It's easy to remedy as you just need to heat up the canister (fuel) again.

I did this by holding my lighter under the cannister for about 20 seconds. Just be careful not to go crazy and only do that if it's cold out and the fuel has separated (you'll know because it won't light and no fuel will come out).

You can also warm up the canister by placing it inside your clothing against you skin. In cold consitions, I place it inside my sleeping bag at night so it's warm in the morning.

I've always been able to get canisters at outfitter stores in trail towns. The guidebooks list towns that have full-service outfitters, so you can plan ahead for each section.

I have too, provided the town had an outfitter, with two exceptions:
1) The CAMP STORES through Shenandoah National Park
2) Delaware Water Gap.
