I grew up in a county with a lot of AT running through it. When I was a kid, hikers were a common sight in town. Back then you couldn't miss them... huge brown boots with red laces... and heavy beards for the men.

My mother had a soft spot for them. I remember picking up a couple once... he fit the description above & his wife (?) was pregnant I think. We drove them to town and let them off at a store. In the summer when they were most common, mother often handed them simple food items.

Anyway, I saw this site by accident. Looking at the pictures and reading the posts bring back fond memories. I envy you, especially the thru-hikers.

Take care.

The AT impacts so many people in so many different ways. It's very cool to hear how the Trail affected this non-hiker. One would never know...

You can do more than envy. Come on over and walk a state or two. Trail Texans are always great fun and always welcome.
