Does anyone know of any good campsites just north of Neels Gap, I know the Data Book lists one about a mile north but if anyone has been there or knows of any in that area I would appreciate feedback.

A few good sites in that area but more sites than water.

There is a good spot off the left (nobo) about .8 north of Neels Gap. Good for a big tent.

I hiked through there last October and saw a funny thing. HHMMMMM. There was a tent already pitched at the well known site with no person, pack, or provisions in sight. It looked abandoned. I wonder whether it is still there.

That's Bull Gap, big enough for several big tents actually. Has a spring down the hill, but who knows if its running - I wouldn't count on it with our 'exceptional' drought. There is another spring in about 2 miles, and then another about another 1.5m at Baggs Creek Gap, which is another large site.

There is a good campsite about every mile after Neels Gap. I was there in October and every site from Bull Gap to Cowrock was taken. Good thing I had a hammock!

I vote for Levelland Mountain . . . if there's no wind.--Kinnickinic

I also hiked through there last October and saw the same tent.

Thanks for that, good to know about the unreliable spring at Bull Gap.

I just hiked that section, Neel's Gap to Tenestee Gap and there is NO water,
There are quite a few campsites along the way.

There's even more campsites after the first frost when the wildflowers and blackberries all begin to fall. As noted above, water is the limiting factor.

No worries...I'll have a huge feed at Neels Gap and pack up a couple of liters from the tap.
