Just wondering about how long would it take to hike the entire NC section. I really wanna get a fall hike in and am considering taking leave from work and just doing NC.

Uh... WHICH "NC section"? There's the section south of Fontana Dam, which is in NC. There's the section around Hot Springs, which is in NC. Plus some bits and pieces here and there.
But mostly, the trail runs along the NC-TN border, and not in NC.
So, help us out here, where are you asking about?

my guess would be the nc/ga border to the nc/va border.

I was wanting to go from border to border. I understand that it runs along the border of TN and NC. I wanna hike from GA to VA.

Took me 40 days to go from Springer to Damascus on my thru. Take away the 5 days in Georgia...5 weeks from GA to VA. YMMV.
How many nights with those days, 40??
