Try Crowders Mountain and/or Kings Mountain State Park.

Drive NE to Uwharrie SP or NW to South Mountain SP.

All these destinations have maps posted on their websites.

Have a good hike.

Crowders Mtn. is my favorite for a steep hike close to Charlotte. You can make it short, or you can make it fairly long by doing the loops more than once.

PS--The camping area is a good one for testing new gear. You have to hike in, but it's only a mile. Has running water and privies available.

Only been to Charlotte a couple times, but never hiked around there. I only know of Pilot Mtn near Winston, and the Foothills Trail in South Carolina.

South Mountain is an hour drive and my favorite area. However if you want to stay local to Charlotte take a look at Latta Plantation, they have 16 miles of trails.

Theres Morrow Mountain to the east of Charlotte with some cool trails and little past that is the oldest mountain range on the continent, The Uwharries.
