I'm just curious if anybody has some recommendations for overnight parking in this area so that I can hit the AT for a few days? It seems the visitors center or hopper rd might be options.

Thanks.

You may park at the Greylock Community Center in No. Adams about 100 yds. from where the AT crosses Rt. 2. Ph. # 413-664-9020. we parked there for 3 weeks recently and had no problem.

It gets better. At the AT crossing of MA 2 just west of the Greylock Community Center, you can catch a local bus (route 3) to North Adams and transfer to a southbound bus (route 1), which stops on the AT at the post office/cheese monument in the center of Cheshire. If you want a longer hike, continue on to Allendale Shopping Center at the intersection of MA 8 and MA 9, only a mile or so west of the trail in Dalton. Check out the schedule and maps (http://www.berkshirerta.com/schedules.php). With a little bit of planning, you likely could get as far south as Great Barrington for the hiker-friendly fare of only $1.10 per town.

The road up to Bascom Lodge is closed to motorized cars.
