I haven't been on here in awhile, but I thought I would pop out here to see what is going on. I completed my hike on 9/17 (starting on 3/17). What an awesome journey. The people you meet along the way helps to restore your faith in humanity. If only it could be that way everywhere. Thank you to all of the wonderful people on the trail and near the trail for making my journey so incredible!

You all were one day ahead of Paul Bunyan and me. We saw Gandolf and another hiker at the ranger station after their descent. Fantastic!

Congrads. I envy you. I plan to thru in 09 and read all I can about the trail. I have looked at all your pictures and have read about 1/2 your trail journal entries. I am wondering what type of phone you carried on the trail to make the entries to your trail journal. What type of camera?

Thanks everyone! Hey, Neighbor Dave, you should have joined us at the VFTT gathering this weekend.

L. Wolf...yeah, I slowed it down and really enjoyed my time out there.

I have a Treo 650 which is big for a phone, but it is also a PDA so I have all of my contact information in it (including some hostels and hiker services) and it has access to the web for updating my journal. I could update my journal in my tent without bothering anyone else. It was nice not to have to wait in line for Internet access at a lot of places. I had pockets of areas where I didn't have a lot of signal though and a few weeks where I didn't make any updates. I could have used my phone for pictures, but I didn't. I used a Canon PowerShot SD 600 (ELPH). It's nice and small and seems to take pretty good pictures considering I'm not the greatest photographer.

O.D. Coyote style. That's excellent. :D

So you started mid-March. How was the weather for you the first few weeks of your hike?

Congrats, M&M! Yours was one of three journals I was reading at the end. You were fun to keep up with and often n inspiration!

AND you summited the same day my daughter did in '04 (and like your son, I too drove up and climbed Katahdin with my daughter).

So you started mid-March. How was the weather for you the first few weeks of your hike?

The first couple of days were cold (about 22 degrees in my tent when I got up), but then we got quite a warm spell. It warmed up enough that the gnats came out. I was worried we would have a bad year for bugs. Then we got the cold snap in the Smokies and it took care of them.
