Mapping Software

OK I know this has already been covered before but I didn't find a good definitive answer yet.

Which is the most reliable source for the trail location, shelters and post offices ???

Eveything that is based on USGS (ie pretty much everything like Maptech, Mapsource and others) is terribly outdated.

What would be my best bet ?

I would be inclined to see if there is a way to do this in Google Earth.

I have the Maptech package and a set of maps. There is nothing like spreading a map out versus looking at a screen or 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper. I vote for the maps.

No I mean where can I find the lastest up to date digitalized maps with waypoints for shelters and post offices...
