This is a trail I frequent atleast 2-3 times a week. It extends from just south of the Massachusetts border 117mi to Mt. Monadnock in southern New Hampshire. This places it in central Massachusetts along the Holyoke Range, and onward. Most of it consists of small ups and downs, just barely evading civilization in many parts, and cutting right through it in many. The northern section has the higher of the summits, with Mt. Grace being the 2nd tallest mountain east of the Connecticut river in Massachusetts, and Mt. Monadnock the tallest on the trail at 3,165ft and a bare rock summit (un-natural).

1. What do people like about it?
2. What do people hate about it?
3. What's wour favorite town?
4. What's your favorite summit?
5. Who has thru-hiked it?

My answers...

1. Close-by, fairly quiet in many parts.
2. Many sections have succombed to development & poor maintenance.
3. Northampton & Northfield
4. Mt. Grace
5. Made an attempt last May ('03), and cashed it in after just a few days due to un-fordable rivers/streams, unmaintained sections, and lack of enjoyment. I spent the rest of the week I had taken off to overnite a few times in the northern sections of New Hampshire and Northfield/Miller's Falls.
