October 20th, great timing so that thru-hikers can participate in that BBQ and in the celebration of the trail! The AMC celebrates that it is a non-government organization that gets to run and develope lucrative business opportunities on federally protected land and in wilderness areas un-open to development--that it gets to have this national scenic trail go straight to the cash registers in every hut.
