Mornin' all,

Anyone else having problems logging on to www.Trailjournals.com (http://www.Trailjournals.com) ? :-?

I tried around 8:30 AM EST and it just says server error. Maybe down for routine maintenance? Let me know if you might have the same problem.

Thanks,

Survivor Dave

They kinda do that every once in a while. Great site though :)

I'd advise people to be very careful to understand the limitations and restrictions of trailjournals.com before posting any personal info on the site. The main problem, of course, it that once you start a journal there, you can never delete it. True, you can delete the content, but you aren't allowed to delete the journal itself.

Here is a thread from last spring about the problems with TJ:

Looks like if you complain about not being about to delete your journal, they lock you out of their site (but won't delete your journal)...

Postholer.com is a far better site, IMO.

Thanks for the plug Overpass!

Here's a comparison chart of features for Postholer and TrailJournals:

Nice comparison chart. I'm impressed.
How do you pay for the site, or is this a labor of love for hikers?
And tell me about the name, I don't get it :)

Yes, the site is just that, a labor of love for fellow hiking/adventure enthusiasts. The only cost associated with it is that of the server I lease, which costs about the same as cable TV (I don't watch TV or have cable).

The site started out as a single web page on another domain. It was the snow conditions for the PCT and CDT, ie, "Postholing in snow", thus postholer.com.

It has grown into much more than snow conditions over the last couple years, but the name has stuck. I worked a senior UNIX sysadmin for a number of years and this lets me keep my edge.

I now drive a fuel tanker 4 days a week for a living. :sun
