I want to make my first alcohol stove this weekend, so my question is two part:
1. Which is the best model out there as far as weight and performance go?
2. What is the best place to find instructions (complete, including tools needed, etc., I am a novice!)///...i.e. website, etc.

If u recommend a model, please if u know where i can find the instructions for it, post it as well.

THANKS!

I'm really looking forward to this!:D

The Penny stove is the one I currently use. Easily constructed in under 10 minutes.

Your first stove to make is the SuperCat. Here in the DIY gear section you'll find the instructions and how to use it. Do a little novice research, have fun!!!!!!

Sarbar, what stove would you recommend for the Novice?

Which one are you using nowadays?

If I were telling a novice stove maker where to start - probably a low pressure stove with minimal parts like a potted meat stove design or a cat stove like design.

starter stove - chop off a soda can so that you have about an inch of can left including the bottom, put in some insulation to act as a wick (hi zelph), use a ring of hardware cloth for a pot support and some folded over foil for a wind screen, burn denatured alcohol or yellow bottle heet alcohol

I 've been using the Etowah II stove for about a yer now and find that it works well. 3.5 oz. Works every time.

Skids(teer) makes some awesome stoves.:D

As you can see, go to him for the expertise!

3.5 ounces! A Globe stove with my Ion stove, lighter, fuel bottle, windscreen/pot cozy, and spork together don't add up to that.

Do a Google search for homemade alcohol stoves. Some of my favorites:

I have a good comeback to that but I see you are in better spirits and want to see you stay that way!

I'll just borrow your gear when I catch up to you in Damascus! You do know where that is don't you?

I'm thinking the easiest stove ever is perforating a cat food can with a paper punch -- the one minute supercat (http://www.coyotewhips.com/photos/supercat.jpg). Tried it out this evening. Boils two cups of water in less than six minutes using 3 tbsp of denatured alcohol; keeps it boiling for five minutes. Weighs .2 ounces.
