Currently I am using a very heavy Vortex unknown-size, older edition backpack. I can't complain becasue it is worth around $300 and my dad's friend gave it to me for free because he needed a new one. It is heavy though. While packing for a weekend scout backpacking trip on the 27th and 28th, I noticed that it is as heavy as my bag and tent...6 lbs! Does anyone recommend any good lightweight packs that aren't $200+ for me....thanks!

Or Granite Gear Numbus Ozone, if you're accustomed to carrying loads of 30 lbs. or more. The Ozone is 3 lbs, but has a more substantial framesheet (and slightly larger volume) than the Vapor Trail.

If you typically carry loads of 25 pounds or greater the Osprey packs are great midweight packs. The Osprey Aether 70 weighs 4 lbs 9 oz. If you are interested in ultralight packs (pack weight less than 25 lbs) I like the GoLite Jam2 at 1 lb 5 oz or the Pinnacle at 1 lb 9 oz. Gossamer Gear makes some nice minimalist ultralight and superultralight packs. If you want something with a beefier suspension system I hear the ULA Circuit is a good pack at around 2 lbs.

ill 2nd the vapor trail for 25 to 30lbs and the nimbus ozone for 30 to 35lbs or so....i have them both and they are my favorite two packs out of the 7 that i have....i dont throw or give them away because i can bring back old memories just by looking at each pack...kinda strange but thats how it is.....nitewalker
