The buggers will let you stay without a fee, and they're not even willing to pick-up your dog's crap?

Hmmm... one reason not to hike with a dog, picking up dog crap. I don't need a friend that much.

Sly, you only need to pick up dog crap if you're hiking with your dog in New York City. Or if you've got one of those stupid dogs that doesn't know to step off the trail to take a dump. I can honestly say I've never picked up dog crap while hiking the trail with my dog. Watch yer step! :D

I should have asked how many $ you put in the box for every night you stayed there. Too late to change the poll now, though.

A $20+ donation is generous if you stayed one night, but less so if you stayed 3 days.

I put in $20 for tenting in the yard during TD '07 on Saturday night. I looked at it as more of a donation to the church for all they had done during that weekend than for "services" rendered by use of the hostel. (I know it's owned by the church, thanks.) The other guys I hung around with that weekend did about the same.

I haven't ever stayed there. Always looks crowded when I am in town.

Rick, you need to start answering your own poll questions.

When my friends and I stayed there a couple of months ago, I counted 38 bunks! I had no idea there were that many. We had the entire place to ourselves. It was great!

Thats difference a season makes. Over traildays 06....it was so full that couples were sharing bunks!

I would if I could remember.

I think it was free. I can't imagine staying there if it wasn't, what with the woods near by.

Tear the place down. It has been abused for years. It would make a nice parking lot.

I agree.. The idea of a hiker hostel is good...It's the folks who take advantage of it are what's bad.
