Just got back from a week walking from Unicoi Gap to Fontana and took a pic of this plant somewhere around Tellico Gap NC on Oct 15th. It reminded me of a Mayapple or umbrella plant, but was much bigger, maybe 18-20” leaves, and small bunches of pea size blue berries clustered above the leaf. Anybody know what it is? I think I’ve run across it before further north…:-?

btw the distribution of Diphylleia cymosa only goes north to about Grayson highlands area of Virginia - if you were thinking you saw it further north than that then it probably was some other blue berried plant like Blue Cohosh that you are thinking of

I found another good description here: http://www.pfaf.org/database/plants.php?Diphylleia+cymosa

Roo bought a little plant ID card that was pretty cool when they picked me up at NOC. She is getting pretty good at knowing the plants and flowers.
