Hey everybody, I'm looking at doing a 3 day loop trip from Big Creek Campground up to mount sterling (5,800ft)on Thanksgiving weekend. I did this same trip a few years ago, but I think it was late October or early November and I'm worried about what kind of sleeping bag and other gear I might need. The last time I did this hike I used my Quest 20 degree synthetic bag and I was miserable. I'm not sure what the outside temp was though. Also, I've got a jet boil and people have said before that canister stoves don't work well in the cold? Will heating the fuel up in my bag do the trick?

Also with regards to the sleeping bag, I'm planning on getting one for x-mas, I suppose I could get it early. But I really don't want to spend a lot of money on a zero when I am planning on spending a lot on a 20 since the 20 will be better overall for the conditions I usually hike in.

Any suggestions?
