hello. i am planning a six week AT section hike starting in late july of 2008. my problem is in deciding what section to hike. would anyone have a recommendation? i am in pretty good shape but don't want anything ridiculously difficult. what was your favorite section to hike and why?

Shenandoah is a nice bang for the buck. Very scenic and not too difficult.

Maine is my favorite, but most of it is fairly difficult (south of Caratunk, anyway.) Ditto for the White Mountains.

But hey. it's all good.

I second Shenandoah National Park (SNP). It is, IMO, the easiest section of the AT (as far as major sections are concerned), great for break-in hiking and great views.

Since you're going in late July, I would try to do a northern section. DWG -> wherever you make it would be nice.
