There was a sign heading southbound from Clarks Valley (on Section 8, near the Victoria Trail) that said, "warning! Moosehead Rattlesnake den ahead" What the heck is a Moosehead? I found nothing but Timber Rattlers listed for this area.:-?

I thought they've been extinct for 75 years.

They are not pit vipers but locate their pray through longated ears, sound and vibrations .
Only found in moose country, where they get their name sake.

So, You think the sign was a hoax, since there are no "mooses" in this section.

Don't know about the "Moosehead" part, but rattlers on that ridge are very much for real. I saw one myself, and I heard that some hiker (and/or his dog) was bit by one this summer. I also recall the taped warning notes by some of the rock gardens.
