One of my young hiking companions sent me this link. It doesn't describe an epic journey, but I thought some hikers who have covered this section might enjoy it; also the pictures on the site are very nice and inspiring!

I listen to NPR all the time but I missed this one. Thanks. Brings back a lot of memories. Specifically, I liked the reference to the difficulty of the descent down Bear Mountain.

Cookerhiker, you didn't miss it -- it was a locally aired segment. WNPR, the station that broadcast the feature, is one of Connecticut's public radio stations. The call sign does confuse many people however.

Some of the photos reminded me of when my wife Kathy and I hiked through there a couple of years ago. Very nice! Did you notice the size of the pot they were pouring the water out of and into the bandana? It was huge!

Yes, I actually noticed, also, the size of the packs for the length of the trip they were taking... it seemed like they could've gotten away with something much smaller, but they must have included recording equipment for the sound and visuals. I guess next time I am complaining about my heavy pack, I should be happy it doesn't have a tape recorder in it!

p.s. Glad to hear you and Kathy are out and about this fall!
