I was working on some data for my BMTA Thru-Hikers guide. One tool I have been using is Google Earth - good for many many things. So as I am working I see a dot near the AT that doesn't have any description at all other than a date. SO I click on the thing to bring it up. Turns out it is a Site on Bigfoot. Apparently he was seen near the BMT in 1986. http://www.bfro.net/GDB/show_report.asp?id=10771

One more thing to worry about while hiking!

Well, if he's anything like Harry Henderson, I think it would be cool to run into him!

Chilhowee - that's where the bear mauled that little boy (last year?)...

That's a great story - but I'm actually more frightened by the mice than I am of bigfoot. Besides, he probably smells better than some of my hiker friends.

OTOH....ugh...ha ha....think I'll take the pepper spray next time I'm out there by my lonesome. :D

I've always said that seeing an animal like this is a privilege.

(did ya run?)

Yes it is. And it was the first one I have seen in years.

Is this the one Dixi posted you almost ran over when looking for a place to camp and decided that maybe there was a better spot down the road?

Yes it was. But a day later I was back up there cutting blow-downs as a part of my Sawyer Certification. I don't think the bear was interested in that though.

If the bear was interested, you could always say you "saw him". :banana

I'd have to Axe him first.

That site has some pretty entertaining stories in it. Apparently I live in a hot spot of bigfoot sitings in Paulding county georgia. Apparently this bigfoot here looks more like a were wolf. Has more canine features. The way the describe it is pretty freaky!!
Anyhow, since I haven't read of anyone getting killed by a bigfoot, ever (well except by a story which Theodore Roosevelt told, yes, the president) I guess that they are less of a threat then bears are, so no need to worry.

Watch out for your beef jerky and don't tease him.

I like those new commercials where they are outdoors and always tease bigfoot and bigfoot ends up throwing them about a mile into the lake:D. There are some others but I can't think of them. Whats the commercial for?

Interesting website. I can think of numerous reasons not to believe in bigfoot. However, I'm somewhat intrigued by actually scientist that look into his existence.

They are called "Messin with Sasquatch" it's for a brand of beef jerkey.

I have seen them. They are pretty hilarious. Supposedly he loves to hang with Uncle Nick Grindstaff, run across Stoney Creek Road in between Iron and Holston Mtns, and steal food at Double Springs Shelter. Probably Mtn Squid will run into him sometime at his new place.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Weird how Google Earth seems to have a default setting to turn on Bigfoot sightings. I've noticed there's one of those near the newer section of Mid State Trail northwest of Mansfield, PA.
