Just received these results from a recent study:
-----

A recent study found the average American golfer walks about 900 miles a Year.

Another study found American golfers drink, on average, 22 gallons of beer a Year.

That means, on average, American golfers get about 41 miles to the gallon.

I wonder if these averages hold up for the average American hiker. :-?

I wonder if these averages hold up for the average American hiker. :-? For a thru hiker this would mean 2175 miles / 41 MPG = 53.04 gallons of beer. I'm thinking it is likely pretty close to accurate given the drinking behavior I've witnessed in trail towns. :D YMMV

So.... lower MPG is better?

(pulls out calculator)

2175 miles / 23 MPG = ...hmmm, carry the 1.... = 94.57 gallons of beer. That sounds better to me! :D

When it comes to beer, my mileage per gallon is pretty low. And sadly, certain brands leave me with an emissions problem.

After some tough calculations, and after having my answer peer reviewed, I determined I get, as of right now, 0 gallons for every 115 miles of backpacking.
