My name is Christie and I'm a newbie. I have only been on a few days hikes so the thought of the AT is kinda intimidating. I was hoping some of you ladies could help me out. I am a student and I am writing a research paper, what better way to learn all I can about the AT and write my paper. I was hoping that I could interview some of you via email, im, or telephone. I am so anxious to learn anything I possibly can. I know you all have lives and are busy but I also know you all have passion for backpacking. Any help I could get would be so much appreciated. Thank you Ladies!!!

Happy Travels.

Hi, Christie, and welcome to Whiteblaze! There's not much info about the subject of your paper in the post. You might find much of the information you're looking for by using the search function in the bar at the top of the page. Another really good source of information for you might be trailjournals.com

Thanks for the tip! I would love to get some first hand experience. I'm thinking about posting a general survey or something and seeing if anyone responds.

You should go to some local Outfitters, check out the books, interview people there (I'd get OK from Mgr first), join a hiking/outdoor club, go to trail-heads and interview hikers. Go to hiker gatherings, etc.

Christie, do you only want to hear from the women? If not, many of the fellows here are quite knowledgeable about the AT - Jack Tarlin (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/member.php?u=227)is practically a human AT encyclopedia of knowledge about the many sites, hostels & services found along the trail. For the history and conservation / environmental issues around the AT, Weary (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/member.php?u=1955) is the man with the knowledge.

Both Marta & Blissful are excellent female resources as is Hammock Hanger (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/member.php?u=14).
