I am looking for trail maintaining groups in VA. I have alot of free time and would like to give back to the community that has given me so much.

based on your area I would suggest Mount Rogers Appalachian Trail Club (link http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/Geyser/2539/ ) or the Konnarock Trail Crew

If you go to www.appalachiantrail.org you'll find a complete list of the Virginia Trail Clubs with contact information for each. I'm sure any one of them would be delighted to hear from you.

I was going to suggest TN Eastman Hiking Club but mtnkngxt specifically asked for clubs in Virginia. Equally I considered suggesting the Cumberland Trail http://www.cumberlandtrail.org/ but again its not in Virginia.

Big Trail hug to you friend! :sun

If I ever meet ya, I'll feed ya :D

I'm with Jack, go to ATC's website, it's updated regularly. (That's if you are not sure where to go).

Hope to see you somewhere out there.

I appreciate all the info everyone. I think I'll probally have to check with the Mount Rogers AT club. I hope to see some of yall out there this summer. Id really like to get a place Konnarock trail crew this summer. Nothing like back breaking work, the outdoors, and sleeping on the ground. It's a good life.

The closet AT maintaining club to Wise would be either Tennessee Eastman Club (Spivey Gap to Damascus) or Mount Rogers Club (Damascus to Sugar Grove).

Not to sure what Mount Rogers Club schedule is. But the Eastman club usually goes out on Tuesdays. Special events/projects on Saturday. We are looking into bringing back the Saturday group if enough available interest turns up, its been a smaller group that does simplier projects or finishes up project after the Tuesday group.

Since you are in Wise, you might want also contact Clinch Ranger office for the Jefferson Forest to see what volunteer projects they have available. Maybe you can help rebuild High Knob Tower.

Bays Mountain in Kingsport has a small maintaining club which works every 2 weeks.
