He started on March 16 and encountered almost nobody on the trail until he got to North Carolina? That's really strange. Do you think he might have been exaggerating?

I'll add that having read the whole article, this is not a man I would want to learn martial arts or hiking from. He sounds very immature.
Sounds like he took a wrong turn and ended up on the BMT. :p

Do you mean journalistically, or in what he is telling the reporter? I have a feeling he is making it sound extremely melodramatic, perhaps to boost his business? I don't know, but it seems that a guy leaving March 16 would have a lot of company on the trail. (Maybe he didn't really hike the whole thing?)

Started off doing 20s, 13-15 hours a day, took him 6 months, no human contact for the first 350 miles, etc., etc.
BULLPOOP!:D
Mentioned this here before. I have a former colleague who was volunteering at ATC HQ. A rather doughy fellow walks in with his family and claims to have completed the entire trail in 2 months. He family stands by beaming. The alleged hiker asks for a 2000 miler form. He fills it out. Under Trail Name, he writes: Appalachian. :rolleyes:
On another note, I had a dream last week that I walked 615 miles in a single day. With my Sister-in-Law. Who doesn't hike. Not sure what that all means, but I did share the dream with my wife.

If you glance at his trail journal, you'll find something much closer to reality!
I don't know if the reporter found the truth too boring, or if the guy decided to "bullpoop" for the reporter, but the story doesn't match his trial journal at all.

I'm curious Did the reporter that wrote the artical even talk to Bowleg ? His journal sounds very diferent.

I just read portions of his trailjournal, and it's obvious the reporter took many liberties with the truth. He had just as much contact with people as any other hiker, and he wasn't doing 20 miles days at the beginning either.

I guess what I'd like to know is whether it was it the reporter stretching the truth, or the hiker? Whose fault is it, since the article is obviously nonsense?
I met them on the trail when they passed thru MD. (I even signed his guestbook on trailjournals) He was thru-hiking and making great progress. The reporter botched the article; but then again, was probably not familiar with hiking or experiences in the outdoors. Just my opinion.
