I was just wondering what everyone takes on there hikes. Gear, food, and well just everything you take for a week or so on the trail.
If you are looking for a gear list, they are frequently posted for critique. Also, they are often posted on trail journals.com. Other than that, pick up almost any how to backpack book and there will be a gear list.
Other than that, there is no consentious on which particular piece of gear is best. You see a variety of different gear out there.
And there is no one set of gear that works for everyone all the time. For example, people who start out early typically carry gear for colder weather that is sent home when the weather warms up. And, when hiking in other areas, I carry different gear than when hiking the AT. For example, if going into the High Peaks of the Adirondacks, I'll carry a bear canister. That's something that is not needed along the AT. When going with a group, I'll carry more first aid supplies then when going solo.
