So, I have been in the unenviable but common position of having the chance to hike the AT this spring, but not being able to clear the funds or the time. I have been wondering and strategizing about both those issues for months. The offer was/is to join up with my sister, starting from Springer and heading as far north as we could get.
Anyway, some kind of energetic critical mass must have been reached, because I have solved the funding problem and as of yesterday, began the formal request process for a 6 month leave.:banana
To my total relief and amazement, both the supervisor and the unit manager at work were encouraging. Although the team will be affected by a cut in productivity, they still gave me hope that something could work out. One even said, "Heck, you can get a job any old time: but getting to do the trail, that's a golden opportunity." My energy just lifted right up.
I woke up this morning seeing springtime Georgia woods among the late fall Maine woods around me. Tonight, I began to book the flight.
What a huge, huge privilege this is. :sun
I love to read Whiteblaze and am just so happy to be much, much closer to an early spring start. Love to all the fellow trail-smitten readers out there, Mame
