Hey does anyone know is there is a cheap hotel located near the Amtrak station in Gainesville GA? Looks like I might fly into town on the train then crash for one night before heading to Springer, any help would be great.

Dahlonega is only about 30 miles from there, and the Hiker's Hostel is $15. Or go to Mountain Crossings to the Hostel there, again $15.

I don't know of any cheap hotels (price wise) anywhere near there, Even the dives in Elijay and Jasper want $40 per night..

Stranger, why don't you get in touch with Josh and Leigh at the Hiker Hostel (http://www.hikerhostel.com/). Might be able to get a shuttle to their hostel, a night there and a shuttle to the trail head for about the same price. I haven't stayed there but everything I've heard about Josh & Leigh has been very positive.

To start my thru I took the Amtrack train to Gainesville. The least expensive place to stay, within walking distance of the station, was a Best Western. It was not cheap. $70. That was in 2001.

a cab from g ville to dahlonega might be hard to find.

there is gotta be something cheap in g ville, and i am sure there are places below your quality standards. no offense to anyone, but a lot of poor immigrants live in this area.
