I could prove you wrong with a photo I took during my thru.
I stayed at Bearfence Mountain Hut in the Shenandoha Park. A bear entrered the area and when he came to the path leadng to the privey he followed it to the privey. He opened the door and went inside. I got one of my best pictures. The bear comming out of the privey. I have it in my scrap book with the heading "Who said a bear s---- in the woods."

We have bear in the yard at least once a week. Typically they steal the garbage or pull down the bird feeders.

Last spring my wife bought hanging flower baskets and put them in the trees behind the house. The afternoon after she put out her flowers the bear came and pulled them all down and ate the flowers.

He took a particular interest in one of the baskets, eating the flowers, rolling the basket around and scraping out the soil. When he finished his prep work he took a big dump right in the basket.

When I came home from work I threw away the "basket-o-bear crap" and trimmed and rehung the others. All the flowers grew back nicely and the bear didn't touch them the rest of the summer.
