I am interested in trying hammocks, but I don't ant to spend the $100 - $200 on a piece of equiptment I might not use (if I don't like it). Anyone have any suggestions where I can try out a Hammock in FLA?

there are a couple of folks from Florida that use hammocks. One is cannibal and the other is hammock hanger. You can make your own if you like. use this link http://www.imrisk.com/testhammock/testhammock.htm

You can also go to REI or mail order from them. They carry ENO and Hennessey. If you don't like it, you can return it to them.

Black creek sells one kind at Gate parkway and JD Butler, behind the BBQ restaurant. I can show you an Ultra lite Asym Hennessey the next time I go to Atlantic beach to visit my grandsons. Send me an email and I'll bring it up with me in a few weeks. I go every few weeks or so.

You might want to try out Risk's Test Hammock (http://www.imrisk.com/testhammock/testhammock.htm)

Just remember there is a learning curve. Some give up on hammocks too soon cause they failed to put in the proper time. Check this site out for some great hammock camping info. www.tothewoods.net/HammockCamping.html

I agree - you need to get a hammock to check out, but it's also worth your time to read up and understand the issues that are associated with hanging. Great info from Jeff and Risk....

don't forget Sgt Rock's (http://hikinghq.net/hammock/hammock.html)site!

Shane's site (http://www.theplacewithnoname.com/hiking/index.html) is also worth checking out - see his hammocking section.

Ed Speer's (http://www.speerhammocks.com/) book is also worth a read, and worth the $20.....

....and no, I have no financial relationship with Ed, other than having just paid him $140 or so for a winter tarp / accessory kit......can't wait to get it - hopefully by this weekend's trip!

I'm waiting on my similar JRB cat tarp. Where you headed to this weekend?

it's a Boy Scout outing - "Yule Log" - district campout - at "Scoutland" on Lake Lanier, near Gainesville, GA.... Several of us, adults and youth, will be hanging this weekend!

She-Dino got her JRB Bear Mountain hammock yesterday. It will be going out in the backyard for a test today (after I take the very sick He-Dino to the doctor). I set it up in the garage and this thing is amazing -- great workmanship and a well thought-out design. The Jacks even supplied me with a 'handicapped strap' - an overhead strap that will assist the wounded Dino (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?p=202410#post202410) in getting in and out of this hammock - now that is some kind of customer service.
