Last night I taped this enormous cardboard Menorah that I found in 5-Olde Tavern to the tailgate of my best friend's truck. Apparently he drove around in it all day without noticing, including going to several construction jobsites. The amusing thing, of course, is that he's not remotely Jewish, but we live in kind of a small town.....people are certainly gonna start wondering!!
In any case, it's a little early, but I hope everyone has a great holiday season, regardless of your persuasion.
Even YOU, Mitt Romney! :D

No mention of Festivus?
for the rest of us,.
Festivus rituals
1.1 The Festivus Pole
1.2 Festivus Dinner
1.3 Airing of Grievances
1.4 Feats of Strength
1.5 Festivus Miracles
Many here celebrate Festivus rituals throughout the year, no need to repeat any of it.
How are my fellow Iowans treating you LK?:sun
Merry Christmas (even though Jesus most likely was born in warmer months). It's a nice reason to forget our differences and celebrate our similarities.
Here's to hikers everywhere, and especially to AT lovers.
I having latke's Sunday....
Then Christmas Eve, I am again celebrating the Jewish version of Christmas Eve --- Chinese food and a movie!
My friends swear this is a very old Jewish tradition!
I think I may have a pine tree air freshner I can set up as a nod to my Catholic background. :D
BTW.."airing of the grievances"? Hell..that's a daily occurence in my family. We never needed a special holiday for that.. ;)
Lion King...Thanks and the same to you. Some folks think it's too early for Christmas wishes but they have to understand; when you are out hiking you just loose all track of time.
Best of luck on your adventure.:sun

Hey LK,
Thought you would enjoy this:
An outdoor writer for the Portland Press Herald (that would be Portland-Maine LOL), Carey Kish wrote under the heading "Useful outdoors gifts for $25 or less", subtitled "Motivation and Inspiration", the following:
"While you watch the snow pile up outside your door this winter, insert 'Walking with Freedom: The 2,170-mile Journey along the Appalachian Trail' by hiker and filmmaker Michael Daniel into your DVD player, relax and dream some big hiking dreams.'
Who the hell is that Daniel guy? LOL
Attaboy-congrats to you. Have a great holiday and stay out of the hot sun!

what is festivus?
It's the non-denominational holiday featured on a Seinfeld episode. :)
what is festivus?
He was a character on Gunsmoke.
I'm glad someone like Kirby celebrates him.
Merry Christmas to everyone else!

Here is Wikipedia's definition of Festivus:
Festivus is an annual holiday invented by Reader's Digest writer and editor Daniel O'Keefe.[1] It was introduced to popular culture by O'Keefe's son Daniel, a scriptwriter for the TV show Seinfeld, on December 18, 1997, in the episode "The Strike".[2] (Season 9, Episode 10) The holiday is celebrated each year on December 23, but many people celebrate it at other times, often to avoid the Christmas rush.[2] The holiday includes novel practices such as the "Airing of Grievances", in which each person tells everyone else all the ways they've disappointed him/her over the past year. Also, after the Festivus meal, the "Feats of Strength" are performed, involving wrestling the head of the household to the floor, the holiday only ending if the head of the household is actually pinned.
Some people, influenced or inspired by Seinfeld, now celebrate the holiday,[3] in varying degrees of seriousness; some carefully following rules from the TV show or books, others humorously inventing their own versions.

How can a show that was all about nothing have so many popular episodes? My personal favorite was the "soup nazi."
Happy Festivus!

We usually go to a Christmas tree burning party the 1st week in Jan. Pretty awesome to see a pile of 30-40 trees burst into flames. They're toast in like 3 minutes. Flames 100 feet into the air. I can't wait.
