A one pint thermos and my Golite parka. Nothing like hot chocolate during breaks.

Winter is almost upon us? I would say it has already hit, at least in Virginia. We have had at least eight inches in Charlottesville in the last week and a half. My Northern friends might chuckle, but that is more than we have had during some seasons.

I'd say it already is seing we just had our 3rd snowstorm of the season.

That being said, I put in about 20 miles a week on average, and one of my favorite pieces of winter gear is my Outdoor Research 1L Nalgene Parka. Although for 3-Season use I use 1L widemouth pepsi bottles, in the winter I use a single Nalgene for boiling hot water, durability, and super-wide mouth. This insulatr will keep boiling water nice and hot for atleast 3 hours.

Just bought a Marmot Doublewide 15 degree down bag. Weighs 3 lbs, and it is made for us guys with big shoulders. Was recommended by a friend, says it has a zipper that let you gain 8 more inches in girth.

I going out to section hike Erwin to Hotsprings after X-Mas and thought it would be great time to try it out.

It has snowed here bunches too, but I was goin' by the politically correct 21 of dec. I love the winter hiking. Got to get some snow shoes soon though. I have decided also that the fleece slippers are great and i kinda like some booze, so I can pass out early as I am a nite owl. :jump

There is nothing better on a cold snowy night in a shelter drinking down some Hot Tea with Beam. "Beam me up Scottie"
